kate spade new york Spring 2012

Remember back in June when I started a new job? Well, my entire team knows about this blog so I might as well tell you that I’m lucky to work at kate spade new york headquarters. Sometimes we get really cool opportunities, like yesterday, when I attended the Spring 2012 presentation, styled by Brad Goreski!

Let’s dig in - if you’re a fan of Kate Spade, you are probably familiar with 2011’s concept of the Year of Color, with a different color every month. Well, in 2012, it’s all about the Year of Pattern, with Australian wallpaper designer Florence Broadhurst as muse. The January delivery is a “one way ticket to Australia,” a nautically inspired capsule of navy and black worn together, stripes, and tweed on tweed on tweed.

February brings an explosion of Florence prints- particularly that Japanese floral which is featured on everything from dresses to luggage and even Vespas. The bright gulabi pink kicks up the black and white palette - there’s a pink version of the flouncy dress second from left that I have my eye on!

I love the octagon necklaces that turn the graphic Florence print into a three- dimensional version.

Quite the accomplished woman, Florence also owned a finishing school, so March is for garden society and tennis games on the lawn. Naturally, that means ladylike stripes and ruffles, but that green dress in the back isn’t just polka dots - the print is made up of tiny tennis balls!

Congrats to Deborah and the design team, as well as all the folks in PR, for putting on a fantastic presentation. I’ve been working through this collection for months, but you still made it magical!
