hey

I'm Mariel. My style is caught somewhere between a prepster obsession with plaid and the hard hitting trends of the big city. Employee at kate spade new york HQ, Astoria resident, big fan of the internet (I also blog at mariel and matt and mariellie.) All opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

Wonderland

The Occasion…

My mom surprised me with tickets to Wonderland, a new Alice in Wonderland musical making its premiere in Tampa.  It was so funny and the costumes were incredibly creative — done by the same woman who outfitted Wicked, so you should definitely take a look at their site and see them for yourself.

The Outfit…

Purple Silk Blouse - used to be grandmothers, now borrowed from mom’s closet

Metallic Tweed Pencil Skirt - J Crew Collection via Diva (Alexandria, VA) (previously worn here)

Hematite Fringy Necklace - handmade by my friend Linds

Hematite Magnetic Bracelet - borrowed from mom

Black Tights - drugstore

Black Patent Pumps - Bally

The Explanation…

I’ve worn this skirt with purple before, but more of a muted plum.  This time I went for a bright indigo with this vintage silk blouse borrowed from my mom’s closet.  Adding the hematite accessories, one of these also borrowed, played up the metallic bits of the skirt, which I loved.  I always like to raid my mom’s wardrobe for pieces to work into outfits with what I’ve brought home.  Do you have a favorite item to borrow from your mom, sister, or friends?
