hey

I'm Mariel. My style is caught somewhere between a prepster obsession with plaid and the hard hitting trends of the big city. Employee at kate spade new york HQ, Astoria resident, big fan of the internet (I also blog at mariel and matt and mariellie.) All opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

Spring Wish List

It’s starting to feel like spring so I’m plotting what will make the cut to be added to my wardrobe. First, the inspiration…

spring 2011 trends

Christopher Kane // Prada // Jil Sander // Max Mara // all photos via vogue.com

It’s not a surprise that I freaking loved the saturated, bold hues - especially the flourescents- that made it down the runway last spring. I’ve heard the word “colorblocking” too many times and now it’s starting to sound weird, so I’ll just revert to calling it “wearing everything bright that I own at once.” It’s worked well for me before so I’ll definitely be honing in on this trend.

spring trends wish list

(ed. note: the dress and red pants pictured aren’t the exact items in my list below)

  • Everyone’s dying for red pants a la Max Mara this spring, and I’m no different. I already ordered these chinos from Lands’ End Canvas (cheaper and cheerier than the darker versions at Asos and J Crew) and they should arrive today, so hopefully they work!
  • A neon lace skirt like this one from Christopher Kane would be such a rad find (even though it kind of reminds me of Hankie Pankies.) If all else fails, Ann Taylor has several non-lacy pieces in a citrine hue this season.
  • In stark contrast, I’m loving the all white trend, too. This white eyelet dress from Lands’ End Canvas is right up my alley, and I will definitely need some skinny, cropped white jeans like these from Madewell.
  • I desperately need something to echo Prada’s lifechanging collection and this H&M sweater does the trick. (With the white jeans! Perfect!)
  • I don’t really need new shoes (other than some sandals to replace my broken J Crew thongs from last year) but I really want these Kate Spade ballet flats (they seem to be sold out online…eek!)

What are you most excited about buying (or thrifting or making) this spring?
