Talbots Fall 2011

Betcha didn’t think the ridiculously cool croc embossed boots I posted on Thursday were from a Talbots collection, but it’s true! I visited their showroom last week to take a peek at what will hit stores this fall.
The entire collection drew inspiration from Old Hollywood, some looks leaning heavily on Katharine Hepburn-esque menswear. Fall offerings are split into three deliveries, so around August you’ll be able to purchase the awesome explosion of leopard, cheetah and soft browns seen in the top photo.

The entire showroom was full of fall leaves - just the thing to get you in the mood for wooly sweaters again when it’s just getting warmer outside!
September moves into a chic neutral selection in gray and black.
Wait, we’ve got to take another look at that pinstripe outfit.
A three piece pinstripe suit. So gangster. In a good way— Imagine strolling into the office in that bad boy, your hair in a sleek wave, sexy patent heels. That’s a star of the show kinda look.

September also included several pieces in a lovely burgundy shade that Talbots has dubbed “baccara rose.”
October was all about evening, with gorgeous looks on display such as this feather dress, pintucked chiffon blouse (going on my wish list for sure) and an entirely beaded frock reminiscent of the Roaring Twenties. The teal accents here, including a gorgeous teal and black herringbone overcoat, are a welcome injection of color.
Y’all know I love color, so the neutral heavy centerpieces of the collection were slightly disappointing…until I saw these rust and ochre basics on a rack off to the side. Thick, cozy cable knit crewnecks in several colors (priced very reasonably at $89) were matched up with floaty chiffon skirts and tweed shorts on a couple of mannequins, and the mix of textures is just right. Put me down for one of these sweaters, please!
Lastly, the accessories. Talbots had a few ladylike satchels on display, including this lovely Beacon Hill bag in embossed croc. It’s hard to tell from this photo but the leather is the perfect medium gray.
Many of the looks were styled with suede pumps in bright turquoise and red, but I prefer these demure flats in the same colorways.
Prices overall range from about $89 for basics to $349 for outerwear and cocktail dresses, although there are a few special pieces coming in at a higher price point. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - Talbots is a brand to watch out for!
