Talbots Fall 2010
On Tuesday, I popped over to Talbots HQ for their Fall 2010 preview. I’ll admit that I haven’t paid much attention to Talbots in the past — in my mind it was a store for suburban housewives and older women looking for career separates. But every time I walked by their Madison Avenue store near my office, I kept stopping to look at a floral sundress or winter coat in the window. The invitation to view what’s coming this fall came at a great time, now that Talbots is revamping its offerings and moving in a more fashion forward direction.
Talbots tagline is “tradition transformed” which is perfect to describe the updated classics around which the brand revolves. Perhaps I’m personally biased since ”preppy with a twist” is pretty much a synonym, but WWD put it best by saying that for every trendy piece, Talbots also offered a standby basic.

The collection transitions through each month of fall, starting with August and its ”collegiate chic” inspiration. I love the candy colors and textured fabrics such as the red embroidered skirt above—my favorite look of the lot.
Does this outfit look familiar? I love this golf green jacket.
September’s pieces move to a leopard print, red, and camel palette. A luggage colored leather pencil skirt was a standout item as well as this plaid capelet.
I loved the drama of this plaid kimono shrug.
October’s offerings faded to a pastel and gray color scheme, and I would’ve liked to see some bolder hues here. There were, however, some strong basics including a tulip skirt I could easily see myself buying in several shades.
While ready to wear is definitely Talbots’ strength, there were a few covetable accessories like a chain handle handbag and these adorable ballet flats.
Overall I was pleasantly surprised and impressed with the direction that Talbots is going. I’m looking forward to trying these on in a few months!
Thanks to Jessica at Talbots and my friend Jessica for setting me up with this opportunity!
